I am MJ Matteson, and am applying for the head coach for Girls' Volleyball at Estrella Foothills because I truly believe I am the best person for this job. I have been coaching volleyball since 1997, and have coached everything from developmental levels through high school varsity, and clubs. For the past six seasons, I have been the assistant coach to our Lady Wolves here at Estrella Foothills, working with the current coaching staff, and working hard for the success the program has recently seen. In those six seasons our Lady Wolves have won the 4A AIA state championship twice, and have been runners' up twice. I have also been the head Boys' Volleyball coach in those same six years, finishing in the final four the last two seasons. Prior to being here at Estrella Foothills, I was a teacher and coach at Youngker High School, where I was the assistant varsity coach to Girls' Volleyball, as well as a freshman boys' basketball coach, freshman girls' basketball coach, and head Varsity Girls' Basketball coach. Prior to that I coached volleyball and basketball at two of our feeder schools, Liberty Elementary and Estrella Mountain Elementary. My coaching experience began while I was still in high school, when I was the assistant coach for 8th grade boys' volleyball at Landmark Middle School in Glendale, Arizona for two seasons. In addition to my experience with "school" ball, I have also coached boys and girls club volleyball ranging from 14U through 18U levels. My teams the last three years have all earned bids to the national tournament. Coaching is truly something I love, am passionate about, and have found success in multiple levels. Coaching Volleyball especially has been a huge part of my life, and I truly love this game, and wish to instill the same love and passion I feel about it into the athletes entrusted to my charge.

While being the assistant coach for Girls' Volleyball I have worked year round with the current coaching staff to develop our talent. Working just as hard in the summer and off season to help ensure we continue having the success the program has grown accustomed to. This is something I intend on continuing with the program if given the chance to be the head coach. I have also designed and run practices that have been fine tuned to the needs of our team, and in ways that have kept our athletes engaged and continuing to improve. I have also made sure that our athletes get recognized by being responsible for tracking statistics and managing the MaxPreps account for all our teams. I am also the primary communicator of what is going on with our program through campus wide emails, social media posts on Facebook and Instagram, and through posting things on my CoachMJ website. The last six seasons have been incredible, and I wish to continue our legacy with the same work ethic I have already demonstrated.
